Description: Before my visit to southeastern Alaska, the water lilies I had encountered were always white with lotus-like petals. As you can see here, this striking bloom is yellow and more circular in construction. According to the Eberly College of Science at Penn State Universit, this yellow water lily (Nuphar advena) is thought to show evidence of an ancient genome and may represent a key evolutionary event in flowering plants. |
